While waiting in a queue at the Apparel Store, I could not stop staring at the watch on the wrist of this beautiful woman in front of me. It was Rolex President in gold with diamonds. Next to it was a David Yurman gold cuff bracelet. Then I noticed her clothes. To my surprise, her clothes were so simple, casual and unbranded. She wore a floral blouse, a wrap skirt and sandals. An unusual blend and a very interesting mix of high & low and I am here thinking of her and talking about her.
In the past several decades we have lived through high brands, low brands & no brands. We have learned to move easily between the high & the low and accept what we need in a more practical sense. Our taste is no longer confined to a particular class, culture, brand or price. We are free and we have learned to make our own style with no rules - no boarders. We made fashion more flexible. We realized that we are not for the fashion but the fashion is for us. We created new styles and inspired the designers to think. It is no longer the designers telling us how to dress. I felt that when I looked at the woman in the stores. She is free to choose what she wants and still can leave an impression.
I was not only surprised but curious to know where could have she bought her skirts from. It was a Silk Wrap Skirt - knee length. The simplicity of the Wrap skirt was making her more attractive and made a distinct difference in her appearance. I won't be surprised if she had bought her floral top and the wrap skirt from a push cart outside a shopping mall. The high-low mix is now our social reflection. No longer one replaces the other - they go together. We all know about the high fashion - expensive brands but we know very little about the low fashion - low value or no brand fashion.
